New to Counseling?

We are glad you are here! You have taken a giant step forward in getting to this place. Starting mental health counseling can be daunting, and it’s completely normal to feel a bit afraid. Here’s what you can expect from your time with North Pointe Services.

  1. First Session: Your initial meeting or intake session is often about getting to know each other. We will start by asking about your background, what brought you in for counseling, and your goals for therapy. It’s okay to take your time to share.
  2. Confidentiality: Everything you discuss in therapy is confidential, with some legal exceptions. This can help create a safe space for you to express your thoughts and feelings.
  3. Open Dialogue: You’ll have the chance to talk about whatever is on your mind. We are here to listen and support you without judgment.
  4. Therapeutic Techniques: We use many different approaches, like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, or talk therapy. Generally during the treatment planning at the end of your intake session, we will explain what we can do and how it can help you.
  5. Pacing: You set the pace. If you’re uncomfortable with a topic, you don’t have to dive into it right away. It’s your journey. We can expertly guide you through your difficulty into health and wellness.
  6. Progress Over Time: Therapy is a process. Progress might feel slow at times, but even small steps can lead to meaningful change.
  7. Feedback: You can share your thoughts about how the sessions are going. We want your time with us to be a collaborative effort, and your feedback is important to us.

Remember, it’s okay to feel nervous! Many people do, and that’s part of the process. The important thing is to give yourself permission to be open and honest. You’re taking a positive step for your well-being!
